Standing to my feet on my own was such a comforting feeling even though I ached all over. Not having control over my own body was as just much annoying as it was scary. I hoped that I would never have to go through that situation again.
The tents I awoke to were spaced out in the form of a triangle. I had to stop myself from giving into an inclination that I should just enter one of the tents but that’d been a serious invasion of privacy. Still, I was desperate for some answers. I needed to know why David had stolen ‘The Book of the Fallen’, but I had no idea how I’d be able to accomplish such a task without knowing anything about David. It was best that I learned what the angels had spoken and the only way to figure that out was to question the three men.
Unfortunately, questioning them wasn’t going to be a viable option. However, there was a possibility that I’d be able to speak with one of their descendants. First things first. I needed to verify that it was them in the tents, so I moved time forward — it was them. So, my quest to figure out their current day lineage began.
I hadn’t expected the journey to be easy, but I also hadn’t expected it to be hard either. To my astonishment the three men each had their own individual powers. They were gravity, space, and time. The ability to manipulate gravity and space were cool in their own right but it was exhilarating seeing someone else with the power to manipulate time. Plus, it could explain my powers, as well. Perhaps I was a member of their lineage.
My quest to find someone in the current day took about three months. It would’ve been close to a month if I might not have gone sightseeing. Numerous fights and usages of powers had occurred since the three men ate their apple green, juicy fruit. There was one fight in particular between two descendants due to familial differences of opinion. One was a part of a group that felt that the act of consummation amongst the three family dynasties should not be intertwined. In other words, if you born into a family with the power of gravity, then you should only be allowed to enter into marriage with someone who has the same powers or is void of power altogether. Some were afraid that we would grow to be too powerful and would come to abuse that power if their offspring were to wield gravity, space, and time. Then there were those who were not driven by fear, who felt that they should be free to marry whom they love — a story as abundant as the richness of history.
The battleground took place in sewers that housed chambers that were used as meeting places. It was in one of these chambers that the families gathered to resolve their differences with a dual between the strongest fighters on each opposition. Both male. One wielded gravity and the other wielded time.
Before the match began the spatial users created a space in which the two fighters could go all out without holding anything back. Inside the space was a huge dojo with a shrine dedicated to Anu (the Most High God). The floors which were made of some sort of material I couldn’t identify contained a moving image of a giant eagle, continuously flapping its wings. I couldn’t take my eyes of it. At least, not until the fight started.
The one they called Drew, wielder of time began the match by trying to drastically age his opponent, Eric. Eric responded by unleashing a powerful gravity attack that bought Drew to his knees. I thought the battle was going to be over before it had even started. Time was a formidable force but seeing it pair up against gravity, I just couldn’t see how Drew stood a chance. But then, Eric’s hands started to age. Somehow, even under all that pressure Drew managed such a feat. It took Eric off guard, too, forcing him to redirect the flow of his gravity, sending Drew flying backward until he made contact against the wall.
Immediately after shifting his gravity, Eric used his gravity as a speed booster and launched himself toward Drew with his right fist. The speed at which he moved left little room for Drew to evade but he managed to move out of harm’s way just a little.
Having been in a few fights where I used my powers to slow down my opponent’s movements, I could tell that’s exactly what Drew had done. Eric’s fist hit the wall of the dojo. Its impact was so magnanimous that it bought the entire dojo to ruin, leaving only the shrine which somehow remained unscathed.
With the dojo out of the picture the space had become an endless background of white with the eagle still in full motion. Because of how Eric was using his gravity to increase the speed and force of his punches, Drew found himself in a position where all he could do was evade. But I wondered how long he’d be able to keep up. The gravity was intense.
Eventually, one of Eric’s punches connects with Drew’s stomach and sends him flying backwards. My anxiety began to escalate because as I fellow time manipulator I worried that Eric was going to lose. But then the fight takes another unexpected turn. Drew somehow managed to recuperate from what should’ve been a devastating blow. Had he anticipated Eric’s attack? Did he get hit on purpose to create space between them? It was just a theory that would prove to be true with Drew’s next attack.
Eric launched himself forward. aiming to continue the fight in close combat. I didn’t see how space was going to help Drew. I wasn’t sure how he would respond or even if he would be able to respond to Eric, but he did — in the most astonishing way. He reached out his hand with an intense focus and before Eric could land another attack, Drew managed to immobilize Eric, freezing him place. I was taken aback. I didn’t know that it was possible to stop time altogether. I just thought that my powers were only limited to moving time forward and backward.
Unable to move, the match came to an end and the space had become a chamber once again. With Drew’s victory it meant that the families could court with each other. It made sense given that I had displayed an ability to manipulate space. This meant that my parents were probably time and space manipulators and upon this realization, I became consumed with wanting to know who they were. So, I tried forwarding time again — only to be interrupted by Drew.
